The inspector contributes certain essential elements to the team, such as trust, experience, knowledge, the standards to which the job must be done, and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to all parties involved. While the quality of roofing products is continually expanding and improving, they do require a "devoted skill set" to ensure the installation of the assembly will maximize the service life of the roof. The last line of defense to ensure your roofing system is properly installed is Quality Assurance and Inspections from a 3rd party "at arms length" from both the client and contractor. As an owner, you may opt out of the inspections due to cost and warranties supplied by the manufacturers. As an owner, you should know Quality Assurance Inspections add value and longevity to any new system. Many final inspections performed by manufacturers are quick visual inspections and not as in-depth as having ongoing inspections. The fact is, the knowledge that a "marginally" installed roof system should last to cover the manufactures warranty (5 - 15 years) .
